Curriculum

We learned a lot last week! Students took their volume assessment on Friday. There are a few students who have requested a little more time with that assessment. I will provide that time on Monday, and then we’ll jump into conversions.

Over the next week, and into the week following spring break, students will be converting all kinds of measurement. These conversions will include customary (U.S.) conversions of weight, capacity, and length, as well as metric conversions of the same. Please point out every day conversions to your students. We all use converters through internet searches, and students will always have a conversion chart while making these conversions, but challenge them to calculate those conversions mathematically. In science, we’ll continue working with our ecosystems and Friday, we will engage in a Pi Day STEM challenge.

Since we do not have school on 3/14, and your students know how much Ms. Boelter loves the number Pi, (my favorite number is 3.14 or 14) we will be engaging in some Pi Day themed challenges. Students are encouraged to bring items that contain pi, or anything circular. See my dojo message for more information on that! We are going to have so much fun this week.

If you have any of the following items and can send them in, we will be using them in our STEM challenge:

  • Cardboard Strips – any size, students can use them as a base for their design 6 inches by 4 inches would be ideal
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Rubberbands
  • Wooden Rods
  • Q tips
  • Plastic Cups
  • Laundry Clips
  • Straws
  • Toothpicks
  • Old CDS
