Announcements

Our Field Trip is Wednesday to the Las Vegas Philharmonic. We’re so excited. We’ll go over expectations each day. Please reinforce those expectations at home as well. We will be representing our school at the event and we want to make sure we follow teacher directions and have the best time.

Please bring your recorders to class for music specials!

Don’t forget the fall festival is coming soon on October 10th!

Our Fifth-Grade themed basket will feature Lego and Hello Kitty. We need your help to make it a success! We kindly ask for donations of items that fit this fun and interactive theme. Suggested items include:

Hello Kitty Miniatures
Small Lego figures
Lego sets
Hello Kitty Plushies
Lego or Hello Kitty stickers
Lego Brickheadz
Lego Minifigures

All contributions are greatly appreciated and will help create an amazing basket that fellow parents will be eager to enter tickets and have a chance to win in our Ober Family Festival drawing.

If you would like to volunteer in another capacity, there will be other opportunities announced as the Family Fall Festival approaches.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity!

Curriculum

This week, we’ll start a new unit on adding and subtracting decimal numbers. As we’ve progressed through these units, we’ve noticed that students do not have the foundational conceptual understanding or concrete examples of concepts like place value and what truly happens to a number when you perform a mathematical operation. For that reason, we will spend a couple of days providing them that understanding so that they have the opportunity to feel more successful when we engage in 5th grade content. We’ve created the following rubric that shows what mastery of this unit looks like. Students will have this in their notebook as well. They can check off each section as they master the skill so they know what they’ve learned and what they still need to learn. Thank you for all of your support as we continue to learn this new content and practice skills we’ve yet to master.
