3/7/2021 Message From The Principal

This message was sent today from Mrs. Mills via Parent Link.

This is Joelle Mills, Principal at Evelyn Stuckey Elementary School.

Today we learned an individual at our school tested positive for COVID-19.

CCSD is prohibited by federal law from revealing the identity of the individual; however, the District is working in collaboration with the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) to perform the necessary contact tracing. A close contact is someone within six feet for a collective 15 minutes. Any individual in close contact needs to quarantine for 10 days.

If the school or the SNHD has not directly contacted you, you have not been identified as an individual with a close contact. All others may be considered a low-risk exposure, similar to an exposure in the community (e.g., shopping, gathering, events).

CCSD has taken precautions in accordance with re-opening plans to limit the risk to others. This includes cleaning and disinfecting the entire school. Social distancing and personal protective equipment are required while on campus.

Out of an abundance of caution and transparency, we are notifying all students and staff of the following:

While low-risk exposure does not require a test, any family may seek community testing at the available sites throughout our community.
It is important to be mindful to continue pre-screening for any symptoms and possible community contact.
If any students are participating in outside activities, they are asked to be diligent in following current, best-practiced mitigation methods for the safety of our school and students.
CCSD reminds everyone that if they have symptoms (i.e., fever, cough, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, increasing congestion, runny nose, new loss of taste or smell, or shortness of breath), to stay home.

We will continue to provide information on any impact this process could have on the school schedule.

Thank you,

Joelle L. Mills, Principal

2/22 Weekly

Happy Sunday Night!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend, and your students are ready for a great week of learning.

Let’s Dig In

We’ve jumped into quite a few projects in the month of February. Some students have fallen into the spring fever blues and aren’t turning assignments in. Please help me keep them on track before this becomes a serious and overwhelming issue.

Students are turning in assignments and not completing any work. This happened sparingly in the fall, but has become a much bigger concern in the last few weeks. If you have any questions, I am happy to go over any missing assignments with you. Please check Infinite Campus.

Wax Museum

Your child is currently completing their research project, in which they interview their selected historical figure. Students are learning to add research, direct quotes, paraphrasing, and summarizing to their writing.

Check out their Google Slides Flipbook and see what they have completed so far. 😁

On FEBRUARY 26th students will spend the afternoon recording their interview answers on Flipgrid. The Flipgrid link for Friday will be posted in Google Classroom next week
– Costumes are not mandatory, but highly encouraged. Please be creative and use items around the house.
-All costumes must be school appropriate and no weapons are allowed on screen.

There will be a VIEWING PARTY on March 5th. The Live Streaming link and times will be emailed to you and posted on Google Classroom.

Bartlett – 9:50-11:00am
Boelter – 11:00-12:10pm
Lyman – 12:40-1:50pm
Tabeek – 1:50-3:00pm

PTA Medallion Hunt

February Medallion Hunt Clue #2

Boy it sure is windy today

Good thing the medallion is tucked away

On the edge of the school zone border

It’s under a rock not brick and mortar.

Clue #1

When you find the medallion take a picture and email it to StuckeyPTA@gmail.com

The medallion is out

It was hidden today

It’s time to search

The medallion is in play

This time it’s silver

With a winners heart

Why are you still sitting there

It’s time to start.

Happy President’s Day!

Curriculum

We are currently working on two projects. Students should complete their novel setting project his week week. We are also working on Wax Museum, as you are aware. I am doing my best to make sure your students stay on task and are completing the steps of our Wax Museum timely. Students simply can’t get behind on this project without requiring students to work after school and on weekends. Please check in with your students and make sure they are completing each step as we progress. If you have any questions, we can always set up a google meet as well.

This week, we will also make a mold terrarium. I will make one remotely and I am inviting students to do it at home. It is one of our science standards and scaffolds with the ecosystems and habitat lessons we’ve completed in the last week or so. If you’d like to duplicate this process at home, your student will need the following supplies.

  • a single one-gallon Ziploc bag
  • a paper plate
  • food (apples slice, cheese, bread, banana slice, or any unprepared food. I am creating our class terrarium with a piece of citrus, a piece of bread, and some cheese.)
  • a cup of water with which to moisten the food
  • a piece of tape to make sure the Ziploc stays closed! I will use duct tape.
  • sugar, salt, darkness, or light; whichever they choose to add to their experiment.

They will label the bag with the start date and their intended testing condition. They can use a marker or a piece of paper and some tape. Depending on their decision, they may add sugar, salt, darkness, or sunlight to their experiment. Students will want their food close together/touching when they put it in the bag. I will walk them through all of this in class. This message is simply so you understand what we are doing in the classroom and why they may ask you for a Ziploc bag to grow mold. We will check the results for 12 days.
