Week of 2/8

Wednesday

Hi, parents! I wanted to remind you that we will not have school on Wednesday. It is a district day off. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will be regular days of instruction.

Missing Work

During the past few weeks, I’ve noticed more students with a growing number of missing assignments. We are moving into new standards in all of our subjects, and students who do not complete the graded assignments will notice a sharp dip in their grades. Please encourage your student to complete and turn in all of their missing work.

With that in mind, we have weekly asynchronous math and reading assignments. These include a ReadTheory passage, Khan Academy minutes, and Lexia or designated reading program minutes. Though some students are completing this work regularly, many simply do not complete these assignments. These reinforce what we do in the classroom and are adaptive, so they meet students where they are learning. Please remember, we decided not to assign additional homework after school releases. Completing their tech time during asynchronous sessions is what reinforces what we’re learning and helps them better understand in class concepts.

Curriculum

We started our Wax Museum project this week, and we’ll start a setting reading project for our novel. Students will have specific portions of each of these assignments to complete each day. Please check in on them. They are really excited about Wax Museum!

Can you believe it? It is February already!

Publishing Party

Don’t forget that tomorrow we will have our publishing party for our opinion pieces.

Your child completed their first opinion writing. We really focused on developing an opinion, researching supporting details, and putting the writing into a five paragraph essay.

Monday, February 1st, we will have a publishing party at 2:10pm! The party will include:
-Sharing & presenting their writing
-Snack (example: goldfish, chips, fruit snacks, etc.)
-Drink (example: water, Capri Sun, juice)

*Can you help me by allowing students to gather a fun snack/drink for the celebration?

On Tuesday, students will start working on their Wax Museum projects.

Career Day Interviews

Your students knocked their interviews out of the park. I told them how proud I was of them on Thursday and Friday. If you wouldn’t mind telling them again, they sure deserve it!

We’re going to have a great week!

Where: Google Meet scheduled on your child’s Google Classroom page.

How You Can Help: Please review your child’s resume; make sure all sections are complete and representative of your child. Also, ask your child questions from the sample list of Interview Questions and practice responses encouraging a clear speaking voice and eye contact.

*The resume, interview questions, and Google Meet interview links/times are posted in Google Classroom.

Another Fun Week

This week we will culminate our career unit with students creating resumes and attending interviews. Each student will be assigned to an interviewer and will be asked questions similar to those in job interviews. It will give students an opportunity to see what the interview process is like.
