Thanksgiving Break 2020 | Nov 25, 2020

MAPs Testing

MAPs testing starts on Tuesday and Thursday this week. If you’re unsure what day your student is testing see below:

Last Names A – F – test on TUESDAY;
Last Names G – Z – test on THURSDAY

We will review MAPs testing procedure tomorrow. Your students will need to reboot their computers to make sure all of their browsers are up to date. MAPs will not run on out of date browsers, and this is what caused most of our issues during our last testing sessions. I will walk students through that process tomorrow after math.

Here’s our planner including MAPs testing times and days: https://bit.ly/37jOTKX

Gradebook and End of First Semester

Our first semester ends on December 18, 2020. We completed our US Government unit in Social Studies, and students are aware that any work from that unit must be turned in by Monday, November 29, 2020.

Winter MAPs Testing

MAPS Winter Testing begins next week on
Tuesday, 12/1 and Thursday, 12/3 @9:50am! We will start with Reading.

(Last Names A – F – test on TUESDAY;
Last Names G-Z – test on THURSDAY)

Only those students testing will log in at 9:50am. ALL students will login at 2:10pm.

The days students are not testing, they will be assigned work to complete. There will be no live sessions, for those not testing, in the mornings.

MAPs testing is not graded. This test helps give information on your student’s academic goals. Students are encouraged to do their best so we get a good understanding of where they are academically.

Detailed information will be emailed to you about testing specifics! It is imperative your child arrives promptly to live sessions, as we will be going over testing prep!

Thank you 😊

Magnet School Presentation

What Is a Magnet School? – Niche Blog

Magnet applications are now open for the 21-22 school year. Kathy Flynn, the Magnet Coordinator for White MS, and who gave a presentation to our 5th graders last year, will be presenting to our class tomorrow at 11:10 a.m. If you and/or your child would like to attend, I’ve posted the Google Meet information in Google Classroom. There will be a presentation link posted after the session for those who cannot attend and who would like further information.

Friendly Reminder

I schedule one-on-one conferences with students. My aim is to meet with each students at least once every three weeks. I post these at the top of Google Classroom for the day. This allows students to talk with me about what they need to complete and any questions they may have. Some students are not showing up to these meetings. Please encourage your student to meet with me during their scheduled time.

Also, LIVE SESSIONS start promptly at:
9:50 – Math
11:10 – Social Studies / Science
12:40 – Reading
1:40 – Selected small groups/study hall
2:10 – Writing

*Please help your child find a quiet work space and remove objects that may be distracting to them in class.
*Please allow your child to use the notebooks we issued at the beginning of the year for note-taking.
*Please encourage your child to keep their camera on and participate during daily lessons.

Curriculum

Good afternoon! I wanted to share this week’s My Digital Planner with you.

Missing & Late Work

Also, please work with your student to check Infinite Campus and/or Google Classroom for missing assignments. Assignments due through November 1 can be retaken or resubmitted through this Wednesday. After Wednesday, late or incomplete assignment for that time period will not be accepted. We discussed this with students this week and they are aware.

If students need to retake or resubmit an assessment, they need to send me a Classcraft message so that we can arrange the retake on camera. Most students have become comfortable with the process and are mindful. We do require that they take ownership of their learning process in preparation for middle school, where they have to be completely independent in order to be successful.

Progress Reports and Conferences

On Friday, I sent home progress reports and unsatisfactory notices with an invitation to discuss your student’s progress. I’ve created a Calendly page that links directly to my Google Calendar. If you’d like to discuss your student’s progress, please sign up here: https://calendly.com/msboelter

If you make a same day appointment, please shoot me a Remind message so I can gather anything I need in preparation ahead of time.

Red Ribbon Week

This week is Red Ribbon Week.

From Mrs. Reicher:

Stuckey Elementary will be taking part in a week long, district-wide program called Red Ribbon Week, October 26th – October 29th . Red Ribbon Week was designed to create an awareness concerning the problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. The national theme this year is “Send A Message. Stay Drug Free.”

Red Ribbon Week started in 1985 as a means of honoring D.E.A. agent Enrique Camarena, who lost his life in the line of duty. Today Red Ribbon Week has grown into a national observance for schools and communities across the nation to come together in the fight against drugs.

At Stuckey we will focus on the many aspects of health and safety. You can take advantage of this time to open a dialogue at home and discuss issues like peer pressure and making the right choices for a healthy future.
