New Distance Learning Schedule Wednesdays

In order to assist students in completing asynchronous/independent classroom assignments, we will be adjusting our instructional schedule, school-wide. Starting Wednesday, October 28th, each Wednesday afternoon will be asynchronous learning.

Teachers will provide live instruction in the morning. Two, live, 45 minute sessions will take place in the morning from 9:50 to 10:35 and 10:45 to 11:30. Students will have the afternoon to complete independent class assignments.

Assignments and schedule times for Wednesdays will be posted on the My Digital Planner each week.

-Sharing & presenting their writing
-Snack (example: goldfish, chips, fruit snacks, etc.)
-Drink (example: water, Capri Sun, juice)

*Can you help me by allowing students to gather a fun snack/drink for the celebration?
*I’ve attached the EXAMPLE in case you want to check your child’s writing and the expectations in the EXAMPLE before the publishing party tomorrow.

Missing Work | Teaching elementary school, Teaching elementary, School classroom

One thing I heard repeatedly while we met during conferences is that managing missing work is difficult if students aren’t using Google Classroom’s feature consistently. With that in mind, I have gone back through the last two weeks of student digital planners and linked Google Classroom assignments designated with , or graded assignments. As time permits, I will do the same with prior planners, but it may take a bit. The best resource for your student to find missing assignments is to go to the proper week in Google Classroom, find the day upon which the assignment was assigned, and click on the view assignment link.

If you have not received your student’s data and artifact links, I am working on getting all of that emailed to you this week.

This week I also experienced a large number of students clicking “turn in” or “mark as done” on assignments they did not complete. This is your student’s responsibility. Once they make that choice, they need to unsubmit the assignment in order to have Google Classroom show it as missing. I do my best to update Infinite Campus every Sunday (sometimes into the late hours of the night). On Monday morning, all classwork for the week should show in Infinite Campus. At that point, all missing assignments turned in during the week should be updated. Though I do my best to keep on top of resubmitted work, I am not notified unless your student resubmits the work. I’ve also asked students to send me a Classcraft message just to make sure we are communicating about the same assignment.

With that in mind, here are the links to the last two week’s digital planners with linked assignments. These are also available through Google Classroom as the top post on each respective week:

Next Class Novel

We are nearing the end of our Wonder class novel read. The next book we will read is Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin. As we’re unsure when we’ll be meeting in the classroom again, we’d love for you to grab this book for your student (you could even pick it up via our Scholastic School Book Fair). If that’s not possible, which we completely understand, we’ll see what we can do to get the book in your student’s hands. Here’s a link to the book on Amazon as well. https://www.amazon.com/Where-Mountain-Meets-Moon-Grace/dp/0316038636
