Hi, parents!

We are in full swing on the Chromebooks.  If your student prefers a specific type of earbud or headset, please send them in.  We will label and store them.  I have community headphones which are over the ear for all to use.  Some don’t like them.  If your student has an earbud/earphone preference, please know they can use them on the Chromebooks.

Students have an option for homework tonight.  They can do the paper homework, where they look for things that come in groups, or they can do Xtramath (www.xtramath.org) or Freckle.com.  For reading, they can read for 20 minutes and check off one one thing for their reading log, or do one reading lesson in Freckle.  This will become the norm as we progress with more options as students get comfortable with electronic adaptive programs.

Also, we all logged into Classcraft today and the instructions for setting up parent accounts is in your student’s GO folder in the clear plastic sheet.  Their login information for Google Classroom and Xtramath is in the same plastic sheet.

Please let me know if you have any questions as we progress.  Thanks for your help as we move through the set up process and on to application.

A link to our paper homework for the week can be found at the bottom of this page as well (scroll down): https://msbinclass.com/homework-policy/

Have a great night!

8/17/18

Good afternoon, parents!

I hope your students enjoyed the Camp Emoji and Mystery Science fun we had today.  We learned about force and motion in the morning, and reviewed some reading and mathematical curriculum via Camp Emoji in the afternoon.

** Updated **

We will take our math MAPs test on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.  We will take our ELA MAPs test on Friday, September 7, 2018.  Please make sure your student gets plenty of rest the night before our testing days.

Next week, we will start working on the curriculum detailed below:

Google-Classroom-1

Google Classroom –

Students will become familiar with logging into Google Classroom, using Google Docs, and responding to questions in Google Slides.  They will learn about using Google Classroom for discussions, including acceptable responses to classmates.

Classcraft –

Students will activate their Classcraft accounts on Monday and will be able to earn XP and GP for working hard in school and at home.  Their Classcraft login will be included in their GO Folder in the early part of next week.  I encourage you to make a parental login and download the application as well.

Math – Multiplication

On Monday, we will begin multiplication.  Our focus for the first week will be finding things in equal groups of 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.  For example, tires on a car come in groups of four, while tires on a tricycle come in groups of three.  We’ll ask students to find things that come in groups at home as well.  Also, we will be building a multiplication flash card set for home and school.  Students will be asked to cut out some flash cards at night to create a set of multiplication flash cards that are for use at home.

Reading – Ask & Answer

Students will work on asking and answering questions to demonstrate an understanding of a text, referring to the text as the basis for the answers.

Writing – Best Part of Me

Students will continue to work on the Best Part of Me writing project and building writing stamina.

Technology –

We will start using Chromebooks on Monday.  We will work on Chromebook use and procedure.  Additionally, we will work on logging into each of the sites we will use for classwork including:

  • Google Classroom
  • Classcraft
  • XtraMath
  • ST Math
  • Socrates
  • Prodigy
  • Freckle
  • Lexia

We had a great first week.  I can’t wait to see what next week holds.  Thank you for your continued support.  As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at peterjk@nv.ccsd.net.

Thank you!  Have a great weekend!

Dear Parents,

If you have not sent back your Chromebook expectations form with signatures, or your Chromebook fee of $10, please do so.  We’re not able to roll out Chromebook usage until we get those back.  If you need forms, please email me at peterjk@nv.ccsd.net and I will make sure we you have the forms you need.

If you have not sent in your student’s folders, please send in the colored folders as requested on the supply sheet.  We use each folder for organizing a portion of our day.  Go Folders are coming home for the first time tonight.  They replace the folders I sent home last night, the Parent Communication Folders, but serve the same purpose.  If you did not send the blue Parent Communication Folders back with your student, please send those back in tomorrow so we can use them.

I will update you throughout the week on the face of my webpage which is http://www.msbinclass.com.  Thanks for all that you’ve done thus far to get this week started off well.  I appreciate you!

Warm Regards,

Ms. Boelter

First Week

This week, we will start building our community in our writing program, Being a Writer.  The class will create an anchor chart of expectations for writing time and work to define how each student can become an author.

Students will be introduced to our behavior management program http://www.classcraft.com.  Through this program students can earn class rewards, armor, and pets (in software) by helping others, being kind, and showing teamwork.  I encourage you to sign up for a parental account via the website or iOS or Android app.  It is free.  I’ve also included instructions on how to sign up in your student GO folders.

Book_of_Lament

We will read The Best Part of Me and students will begin writing a narrative about the best part of each of them.
