Wow, what an incredible week we had in our classroom! I am so proud of the kindness, teamwork, and school spirit your children have shown.

One of the highlights of our week was our Grinch challenge—the students worked together to create heartfelt thank-you creations for some very important members of our school family, including our custodians and cafeteria staff. Watching their creativity and gratitude shine through these projects was truly inspiring.

And let’s talk about the FUN RUN! Not only did we participate with enthusiasm, but our class also raised more money for our school than any other class! How amazing is that? This accomplishment is a reflection of your generosity and support, as well as the students’ hard work and dedication.

I think we can all agree that this deserves a celebration! While the students will receive the rewards they earned as part of their fundraising goals, I’d love to go above and beyond to make this achievement extra special. I have a few fun ideas in mind.

Curriculum

As we wrap up the first half of this school year, I wanted to share some exciting plans for the week ahead and a glimpse into the engaging learning experiences happening in our classroom.

This week, we will begin a new unit on fractions in math, exploring concepts that will build a strong foundation for future skills. We’ll also be putting our candy canes to the test as part of a hands-on graded science experiment for our mixtures and solutions unit.

The science experiment will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, and it’s one that truly benefits from in-person participation. If your child is unable to attend, they will have the opportunity to watch a video and read an article to complete the assessment, but nothing quite compares to the hands-on learning experience!

In addition to science, we’ll be creating a geometric art project—an icosidodecahedron! This unique shape has 30 identical vertices and 60 identical edges, making it a fun and challenging way to explore geometry. Students can decorate their piece of art with anything they like, so if you’d like to send in stickers or crafting materials, they’re welcome to include those in their designs.

As we reflect on the past 90 days of school and look ahead to the next 90, I’m filled with excitement for the lasting memories and incredible 5th-grade experiences we’re continuing to create. Thank you for your support in making this such a special year for your children.

Wishing you a wonderful week, and here’s to ringing in the new year with even more learning and joy!

Important Upcoming Dates

  • House Challenge Food Drive: November 4-15
  • Veterans Day: November 11 (No School)
  • Altruismo Spirit Week – This Week

Curriculum This Week

We are thrilled to announce Altruismo Week, taking place from November 12-15! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to show their support for the House of Giving. Here’s how you can participate:

  • Tuesday: Hats off to Philanthropy Wear black hats to school to show your support!

Please note that we will have a Multiplying Decimal Assessment on Tuesday. We will complete a quick review before we assess. After assessment completion, we will move into dividing whole numbers, a unit many of your students have expressed apprehension about starting. With that in mind, I’ve front loaded their ST Math program with division so they can feel some familiarity before we start.

I encourage every student to complete 45 minutes of ST math at home weekly as it promotes individual growth as I’ve leveled it for each individual student. I appreciate your support with their ST Math growth!

We have made so much growth this year, and I am excited to share that this week. I will be meeting with individual students to celebrate their achievements. It’s inspiring to witness their progress and dedication. Thank you for encouraging your children to reach their goals!

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our school. We are grateful for the partnership we share and look forward to continuing this journey together. Let’s keep inspiring our children to reach new heights!
