Curriculum

Last week, we started a new unit on multiplying decimals. The overarching concept for this unit is that multiplying a number by a decimal less than one results in a smaller value, while multiplying a number by a decimal greater than one yields a larger value. We’ve multiplied a whole number by a decimal and will multiply a decimal by a whole number on Tuesday. We will close out the week with a variety of strategies to multiply decimals by decimals. By the end of this week, students should be able to use a strategy that works for them when multiplying decimals. Below is a video that walks through the area model step by step, which helps students understand what is happening to that decimal numbers as we multiply them.

In our SEL lesson this week, we discussed communication and how to make a sincere apology. We reflected that we shouldn’t apologize until we are ready and we mean those words. We also discussed why apologizing can seem so hard, because we have to self reflect and accept ownership of that mistake.

Thank you for sending in such wonderful and thoughtful students. We do have so much fun each and every day. 🙂
