Curriculum

This week, students will continue to apply conversions and the knowledge they’ve gained to more complex thinking tasks as we prepare them for the SBAC Performance task.

🌱 Science Spotlight – Ecosystem Exploration
Students are diving deep into their understanding of ecosystems! This week, they’ll be working collaboratively to demonstrate their knowledge by highlighting the complexities of three different ecosystems.

After completing this group task, students will begin designing and creating their own ecosystems in a creative, hands-on project. This portion will span approximately two weeks, and we can’t wait to see their ideas come to life!

📚 SBAC Testing – Math This Week!
We will continue SBAC testing this week with the following sessions:

  • Math CAT – Monday, April 14
  • Math Performance Task – Thursday, April 17

Please help your child come to school well-rested and on time for both days. A healthy breakfast is always a great way to start a testing day strong! Thank you for your support in setting them up for success.

🍼 Baby Pictures for End-of-Year Slideshow
As part of our 5th grade promotion celebration, we are creating a special slideshow featuring a baby photo of each student.

  • If you haven’t submitted a photo yet, please do so ASAP via the Google Form (also posted on Class Dojo).
  • Photos were due Friday, April 11.
  • Students without a submitted photo will not be included in the slideshow at promotion.

Thank you to everyone who has already submitted a picture!

👕 Promotion T-Shirts
If you didn’t submit a shirt size for your student, we did our best to estimate the correct size. Shirts were ordered last week and will be distributed closer to the promotion date. Thank you for your understanding!

Curriculum This Week

We are thrilled to announce Altruismo Week, taking place from November 12-15! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to show their support for the House of Giving. Here’s how you can participate:

  • Tuesday: Hats off to Philanthropy Wear black hats to school to show your support!
  • Wednesday: Little Acts of Giving – Wear small black items (accessories, make-up, face tattoos, etc.) to represent the big act of giving.
  • Thursday: Giving is Kindness – Wear your Be Kind shirt with black pants.
  • Friday: Head to Toe BLACK OUT! – Final day to show your support for the Black House by wearing all black from head to toe!

Please note that we will have a Multiplying Decimal Assessment on Tuesday. We will complete a quick review before we assess. After assessment completion, we will move into dividing whole numbers, a unit many of your students have expressed apprehension about starting. With that in mind, I’ve front loaded their ST Math program with division so they can feel some familiarity before we start.

I encourage every student to complete 45 minutes of ST math at home weekly as it promotes individual growth as I’ve leveled it for each individual student. I appreciate your support with their ST Math growth!

We have made so much growth this year, and I am excited to share that this week. I will be meeting with individual students to celebrate their achievements. It’s inspiring to witness their progress and dedication. Thank you for encouraging your children to reach their goals!

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our school. We are grateful for the partnership we share and look forward to continuing this journey together. Let’s keep inspiring our children to reach new heights!
